Brake pads must be correctly bedded in to perform optimally.
To bed in your new brake pads, you must initially drive with gentle braking for the first 150 miles. By this, slow gentle pressure applied to the brakes wherever possible as appose to a sharp, hard, stab on the brake pedal. From 150-200 miles, you should gradually increase the amount of pressure applied (sooner, sharper and a little harder on the brake pedal). Once bedding-in mileage is complete, you must then perform a number of consecutive stops to finalise the bedding-in process. In order to carry out the ‘stops’ you ideally need to be travelling around 60mph, use moderate to heavy pressure to bring the car down to a slow speed (approx. 20mph). Carry out 5-10 stops in succession, but be mindful not to come to a complete stop holding the brakes on(as this may cause your brake discs to hot spot). After the consecutive ‘stops’
the bedding in procedure is complete.
