To achieve the best performance, reliability and consistency from our ECU calibration software, we recommend supporting hardware upgrades. While Stage 1 software can be safely run on a largely standard vehicle, optimising airflow and engine efficiency through carefully selected components will maximise results. For higher performance levels such as Stage 2, additional hardware becomes essential to support increased power and thermal demands.

Stage 1 Recommended Hardware
Stage 1 ECU calibration is designed to work with a standard vehicle, however we strongly recommend a number of supporting upgrades to improve airflow, engine efficiency and overall performance.
At a minimum, a high-quality panel air filter should be fitted to ensure improved intake flow.
For enhanced performance, we recommend upgrading to a full induction system, along with supporting components such as a throttle body elbow and rear crossover pipe. These upgrades help reduce intake restriction and improve airflow to the turbocharger.
We also recommend fitting correctly gapped spark plugs to ensure consistent ignition performance under increased load.

Stage 2 Required and Recommended Hardware
Stage 2 ECU calibration requires additional hardware to safely support increased power levels and thermal load.
At a minimum, the vehicle should be equipped with an induction kit, and an upgraded intercooler. These components work together to improve airflow, charge air cooling and overall engine efficiency.
For further performance gains and improved exhaust gas flow, we also recommend upgrading the rear crossover pipe, throttle body elbow, charge pipe and exhaust system. This helps reduce pressure drop across the intake and also back-pressure on the exhaust side, allowing the engine to operate more efficiently at higher performance levels.

Hardware Compatibility and Performance Optimisation
Our ECU calibration software has been developed and extensively tested in conjunction with 09Design hardware to ensure optimal performance, reliability and consistency. Each calibration is designed to work in harmony with our own range of intake, intercooler and supporting components, allowing us to fully validate results across a wide range of real-world conditions.
While the software can be safely used with aftermarket hardware from other manufacturers, performance results may vary. As we are unable to test and validate every combination of third-party components, we cannot guarantee identical performance or behaviour outside of our own proven hardware packages.
For the most consistent results, and to ensure the vehicle performs exactly as intended, we strongly recommend using 09Design hardware alongside our ECU calibration software.

The following software calibrations are supplied with your device and can be installed individually to provide a range of
engine performance options. Two primary calibration files are included, each designed to enhance engine power or
torque characteristics.
Within each of these primary files, additional adjustments are made to the vehicle’s factory drive modes (such as Race,
Track and Normal), allowing further variation in vehicle behaviour and performance. These drive mode differences are
explained in more detail in the Drive Mode section of this page.

High Performance Calibration
Optimised ECU calibration designed to maximise engine torque output, improving low and mid range pulling power and overall acceleration.

Anti-theft Calibration
Allows the vehicle to be electronically immobilised via the ECU, preventing the engine from starting for added security.

Return To Stock
Restores the ECU back to its original factory calibration, returning the vehicle to OEM power and operating parameters.

Our ECU calibration software enhances these factory modes, allowing each setting to deliver a distinct driving experience. This section explains how Eco, Normal, Sport and Race Track modes are configured within the calibration files, helping you understand how each mode changes the vehicle’s performance, responsiveness and efficiency.

ECO Mode
Designed to retain the vehicle’s original factory power and torque levels, this mode maintains OEM calibration behaviour for maximum stability and control. Ideal for low-grip conditions or when reduced engine output is preferred.

NORMAL Mode
Provides increased performance over stock while maintaining smooth and predictable drivability.
Throttle response remains refined, with no added exhaust overrun behaviour, making it well suited to everyday driving.

SPORT mode
Delivers enhanced engine performance with sharper throttle response and increased driver engagement. Additional exhaust overrun behaviour is introduced, creating a more dynamic and responsive driving experience for fast road use.

RACE TRACK mode
A more aggressive performance calibration offering maximum engine response and torque delivery. Throttle mapping is further sharpened, with pronounced exhaust overrun behaviour, making this mode best suited to high-performance and track-focused driving.
The 09 FlashLink device is designed to offer more than just performance gains, incorporating a range of advanced features that provide greater control, insight and flexibility. From real time data logging and fault code diagnostics to custom calibration updates developed by our in house team and delivered via the app, these functions enhance both the usability of the device and the overall driving experience.

Data Logging
Enables real time monitoring and recording of engine and vehicle performance data, allowing accurate analysis of key parameters for diagnostics and calibration refinement.

Fault Code Reading
Allows the device to read and identify fault codes stored within the vehicle’s ECU, helping to quickly diagnose issues and understand potential engine or system faults.

For those looking for a lower-cost option, we also offer a software-only HQ installation without the FLASHlink device. This includes installation of a single calibration file.
