What does this kit actually do?

This Short Shift / Quickshift Kit replaces the factory shift arm on your gearbox with a cast unit that offers approximately 25% less travel between gears, resulting in quicker, more direct gear changes.

Will this make gear changes harsher?

No. This kit sharpens and refines the shift feel without making gear selection rough or unpleasant. The balanced design helps retain everyday drivability while dramatically improving engagement.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. Installation is relatively straightforward and does not require removing the gearbox. The kit includes a drift tool to assist with OE roll‑pin removal and is supplied ready to fit. In some cases it is advised to lubricate the OE roll pin prior to removal and we recommend watching our installation tutorial prior to carrying out the replacement.

Is there any downside to fitting this?

There’s no negative impact to reliability when fitted correctly. As with any gearbox modification, ensure the roll pin and linkage are properly seated during installation, and verify correct operation before driving.

The short shift arm was easy to install, remove airbox to gain access, the arm is weighted really nicely and the shift is perfect for going through the gears

Great shifter

This is a super bit of kit. Excellent quality and OEM look but better than the Ford part. It definitely is an improvement in shift throw, not massively improved but slightly shorter and just as crisp and smoother.
It's relatively easy to install, remove the air box, intake and pipe and there is enough room to work. You need to put your car in 4th gear to get the selector in the best place to knock out the pin holding it in position. There is a supplied punch which will do but I used my own as it was a little better for the job. It takes a good knock to get the pin moving but once it's free it takes no time at all. A good metal trim removal tool is handy but two flat blade screwdrivers can be used to pop out the ball joints if you don't have one. The whole thing takes less than an hour to do for an average skilled home mechanic.
This is definitely a good value, bang for your buck, upgrade I can recommend and it will improve your driving experience.

Great product! Much better than other "snap on" quick shifters. Now shifting is much smoother and shifter throw is short at the same time. With other snap on quick shifters the throw is short but far from being smooth. Installation may be troublesome, but when you finally get the rolling pin moving it goes flawlessly

I mounted the short shifter a few months ago on my '18 Mk8 and I'm really happy with it!
It really improves the driving experience!
It's a great addition!

You need to remove the airbox completely for easier access! In my opinion, a drift tool that we can screw in would be better than one that we need to knock in.

Great quality upgrade from the previous bolt on short shifter.
Install is pretty straight forward but a hole punch tool is definitely needed to get the pin moving, once u get it the provided tool works fine.
The throw is a perfect length now, solid and precise.
Definitely recommend.
